<p>The first BRAND project meeting and steering group meeting was held in Gelsenkirchen at the 7<sup>th</sup> of June, followed by an official kick-off meeting with external participants at the 8<sup>th</sup> of June 2011. The meeting was chaired and organized by the lead partner IAT.</p>
<p>Aims of the first project meeting and the steering group meeting (7th June 2011) were:</p>
<ol>
<li> To introduce the partner organizations and explain their interest on the BRAND topic. To get first insights into the Alumni Networks in the single border regions by reporting.</li>
<li>To establish a joint framework of the project. That means to take a closer look at the BRAND application and to discuss the understanding of single project steps.</li>
<li>To plan the project’s Phase 1 (Migration Patterns) and Phase 2 (Analyzing &amp; Mapping Alumni Networks). To discuss the possibilities how to implement the project work within the participating border regions. To discuss which data are available in the regions with regard to Phase 1 and how these data can be compared.</li>
<li>To discuss the administrative issues of the project and to build a steering group (SG). To discuss the responsibilities among the partners and of the SG. To divide the work of Phase 1 and Phase 2 among the partners considering the work description within the project’s application.</li>
</ol>
<p>Aims of the official kick-off meeting (8th June 2011) were:</p>
<ol>
<li>To introduce the external participants (main of them alumni network representatives) to the project partners and vice versa.</li>
<li>To introduce the alumni networks into the topic of Brain Flow and BRAND. Both were done by  two short presentations. To clear what are the project’s aims and objectives?</li>
<li>To present the work, activities and day-to-day business of the regional alumni networks. Comparison of the activities, what do they have in common and what are the differences?</li>
<li>To present the idea of Re gional Focus Groups and bring some activities on the way. To collect ideas about further possible members of the Regional Focuc Groups.</li>
